DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Nathaniel Jefferys, London, verge fusee quarter-hour repeater, 51mm, silver OF pair cases pierced for sound transmission, inner with decorative elements including a man's head at lower portion and a small chateau scene adjacent pendant, outer case without hallmarks, inner case bell has not been removed to inspect for hallmarks beneath, outer case containing paper for J&W Todd (late Reid & Todd) of Glasgow, white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at its neck, signed gilt locking dust-cap, s#619 to mvt and dust-cap.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good repeat function and tone, empty slot below 7 position of dial was presumably for a slide causing either dumb repeat or hacking function but slide is not present, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical fine scratches, dust-cap with spot to first "F" of "Jefferys" signature; dial with flake and adjacent fine scratch at center below hands, small chip and adjacent short light hl at bottom adjacent left side of notch for release latch; excellent hands; outer case shows little wear, an attractive patina, few mild nicks, excellent engraving detail, button latch with good function though with surface of button missing; inner case shows little wear, an attractive patina, few very small nicks, excellent engraving detail; bow pivots freely; domed glass bull's-eye crystal with small internal edge flake at top, few typical as-made finish imperfections.
